packing texture into 3DStudio file?
#1
Emor just sent me some 3DS files. (they are .max files) But we did not k now how to do the trick like in Blender where the texture files can get packed into the Blender files???

Is there a choice in 3DS to bundel your texture with the main file?
To make it easier to just open and have everything working?

to send what Ive done in the past is produce a new folder, put Max file and the textures used in the max file in the new folder, and then go threw all of the textures in the materials editor and make sure they read the textures files in the new folder, zip it up and send

or every once in a while I would download a Max file where the model is already textured I would get one Max file and a folder with all the textures in it, so I would put the texture folder in the Maps folder of my 3D studio Max install under program files and then open up 3D Studio Max, go to customize/ configure paths/ external files/ Add/ (find my new texture folder) /Use Path/ and it usually worked

Thank you. This is what we have done so far. But it takes a lot of time, people make mistakes with doing this all the time, and some times the mistakes get built into a project for a long time. So we wished there was something like what Blender has for putting texstures bundled right into the output file. But it looks like there isn't such a method. Which is kind of surprising.

In the past we tried this too but it did not work sometimes. Maybe we had operator erorr problems though and it was not a defective software thing! Facepalm1

Since there looks like no easy fix, we will just have to get better at doing it the long way around. thanks for re assuring that we werent missing something! Praise
